Two siblings. One bun. A whole table.
We're Jansen and Joyce, Chinese Australian siblings who grew up with pineapple buns at home and Wonder White sandwiches at school. Growing up, we felt the pressure to choose a side, to be more Asian or more Australian. We didn't. Bao2Go is what we built from both.
Who we are.
Jansen
Co-founderChild of Hong Kong immigrants, grew up in Sydney. Spent years trying to be more Chinese for one room and more Australian for the other. Started Bao2Go when he stopped.
Joyce
Co-founderHer daughter reached for a bo lo bao. Joyce wanted her to grow up knowing where it came from, without being asked to pick a side.
What we believe in.
Start with the original
We start with recipes that have been made the same way for decades. Then we figure out how to bring them home.
No artificial anything
No artificial colours. No artificial flavours. No preservatives. If it doesn't belong in a kitchen, it doesn't belong in our buns.
Culture is worth carrying
We're making sure the things worth keeping stay in kitchens, at tables, in everyday life. And we're not afraid to let them evolve to reflect ours.
The story so far.
The pineapple bun (菠蘿包) was born in the cha chaan tengs of Hong Kong. No pineapple inside — the name comes from the cracked, golden top that looks like one.
Jansen and Joyce grew up in Sydney. Pineapple buns from the local Asian bakery, Wonder White sandwiches for school. Two cultures, one lunchbox.
Joyce's daughter reached across the table and picked up a bo lo bao. Joyce decided she wanted her to grow up knowing where it came from. We started baking. We didn't stop until it was right.
After thousands of buns, we found our not-too-sweet spot and launched Bao2Go. The first drop sold out. The waitlist kept growing.
Multiple drops. New flavours every few months. Our first sold out before we were ready for it. The next chapter starts this July. The table keeps getting bigger.
The table is set.
